How do I truncate text in free text parameters?

You may want to use a free text parameter and then truncate the first few letters, to copy them into a code or another parameter. 

We only recommended doing this when you have to create a code / parameter with limited characters. For example, when creating a Salesforce Campaign ID.

How to copy and truncate a parameter

1. Go to Track > Edit parameter rules
2. Click 'Add parameter +' button and add a free text parameter for users to enter values in
3. Add another free text parameter, to copy the truncated characters too
4. In the second parameter, click the more arrow to expand advanced parameter options
5. In the copy from dropdown, select the first free text parameter you will and truncate from
6. Next to Truncate, enter how many characters you want to truncate into this new field
