Smart Links contain a unique query string parameter at the end of each link: &up_id=(unique)
We use up_id to stitch data together more accurately and let users bulk edit existing links more easily.
Without the up_id, Uplifter stitches data together looking for an identical landing page + query string parameters in your analytics / ad platforms - however this isn't always accurate because:
- Agencies or MarTech platform sometimes add extra query parameters we aren't expecting, like a user ID.
- Your landing page can be changed by your CMS depending on your language/location (for example if your landing page was in English, but your CMS recognised the browser language as French and changed the landing page to a French landing page).
- Your hostname (domain) can be changed by your CMS to show customers a different website or content.
How do I enable or disable Smart Links?
From the 12th January 2024, all new accounts have Smart Links enabled by default. Our existing customers will be notified and the changed will be rolled out with their permission.
We recommend using Smart Links, but admins can disable it in Track > Edit parameters > Advanced options
What happens if I enable on Smart Links for the first time?
Old links (without up_id) will still report on data by matching links with the same landing page + query string parameters. New links (with up_id) will report on data by matching the unique ID in your different analytics / ad platforms.
