Single Sign-On (SSO) is a convenient and secure way to login to lots of different accounts using a single set of login details. This can save time and reduce the number of passwords you'll need to remember.
As well as the traditional password method, Uplifter now lets you sign up and login to your account with Google's or Microsoft's SSO:
- Logging in with a Google account
- Logging in with a Microsoft account
- Signing up with a new account
- Microsoft accounts: Administrator approval
Logging in with a Google account
1. From the login page, enter your account's email address as usual and click 'Continue'
2. Uplifter remembers your last login method. If you have used Google SSO before, that option will be at the top on the next screen. Otherwise, the screen will look like this:
3. Select 'Login with your Google account'. You will be taken to Google's authentication flow:
4. Login with your Google account email and password
5. Once you click 'Next', you will be taken back to the Uplifter dashboard
Next time you login, you can just click the 'Login with your Google account' button, and you won't need to add your password again.
Logging in with a Microsoft account
1. From the login page, enter your account's email address as usual and click 'Continue'
2. Uplifter remembers your last login method. If you have used Microsoft SSO before, that option will be at the top on the next screen. Otherwise, the screen will look like this:
3. Login with your Microsoft account email and password
You may need to provide permission for Uplifter to access data. Further details can be found in the final section: Microsoft Accounts: Administrator Approval
If you click accept without checking the “Consent on behalf of your organisation” box, only you will be able to access Uplifter through single sign on. If you click this box, any user within your organisation will be able to use SSO.
Note: In some cases, only account administrators may be able to grant permissions for third parties to access data. If so, see the final section: Microsoft Accounts: Administrator Approval.
Signing up with a new account
If you have been invited to use Uplifter by a colleague, or if you are signing up yourself, you can set up SSO as part of registration.
Invited to an existing business account by a colleague
The link in your 'Welcome' email will bring you to the registration page. Enter your first and last names, and once you accept the Terms of Service & Privacy Policy, the SSO signup options will be available.
From here, the steps are the same as for existing users, so check the relevant section.
Signing up to a new account
You can create your own new account as the first user of your business, or to join an existing business account, here.
When completing the registration form, make sure you use the same email address connected to your Google/Microsoft account. You can change the email address in Uplifter Settings later, but the account initially needs to be connected to your SSO ID.
Accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and click 'Create Account'. You will then see the SSO options as well as the traditional password method:
From here, the steps are the same as for existing users, so check the relevant section.
Microsoft accounts: Administrator approval
To connect your Microsoft organisation with Uplifter, you may have to request permission from your IT department, or the person that manages your Microsoft account.
If you are NOT an administrator
1. While logging in with SSO, you may see a screen like this:
2. Enter a justification and submit the form. Uplifter only requires access to:
- Your email address
- The name that you use in your Microsoft organisation
- The unique identifier that Microsoft uses to distinguish users within your Microsoft organisation to enable log in authentication.
3. You will see the below screen. Once the administrator has approved access, you will be able to use SSO as normal.
If you are an administrator
1. To enable SSO for Uplifter, or to let individual users enable it themselves, you will need to log in to Azure Active Directory and click on “Enterprise applications”. Then click on “User settings” in the navigation on the left, and you should be presented with a screen that looks like this:
2. If any user can consent to third party applications the first box should show as “Yes”.
3. If users cannot request admin consent, then a user with appropriate administrator roles must be added to Uplifter to approve SSO consent on behalf of the organisation.
4. Once you receive a request from an Uplifter user, you will need to approve data access for them to user SSO.
Once you have successfully logged in to your account with either of these SSO schemes, Uplifter will default to that option the next time you try to log in. Accessing your account should now be as easy as clicking a button!
