Using Okta for Single Sign On (SSO)

Setting up Okta

Single Sign-On (SSO) is a convenient and secure way to sign in to lots of different accounts using a single set of sign in details. This can save time and reduce the number of passwords you'll need to remember.

Uplifter integrates with Okta as a SSO provider to Uplifter.

The following process is required in order to allow your users to use Okta to sign in to Uplifter.  If you would like assistance during the process, please email support@uplifter.ai and we can arrange a remote meeting.

First, in Okta:

1. Add the "Uplifter" integration from the "Applications" tab.  You will need to search for "uplifter" in the "Browse App Catalogue" section.

2. Select the "Uplifter" application from the application dashboard and install it to your Okta tenant.

3. Copy the client ID and client secret from the "Uplifter" application in your application dashboard.

4. Click the "Sign on" tab

5. Copy your okta domain from the "General" tab from the "App Embed Link" box (the highlighted part in the image below):

6.  Users have to be assigned to the Okta integration.  If you have users already using Uplifter, they must also be added to the integration here to be able to sign in using Okta.

Then, sign in to uplifter.tech

1. In the left-hand navigation bar, click on Connect

2. Search for "Okta" and click "Try now"

3. In the Okta modal, click on the "Settings" tab.

4. For each email domain you want to connect to Uplifter, add the client ID and client secret, and for "Tenant domain" add the value that you copied from "App embed link". 

Include a "Tenant name" to make it easier to associate the Okta connection with an Okta tenant.

5. When you have created the email domains, you will be presented with a sign in link. 

Users can now either sign in through the sign in page of https://uplifter.tech/login or through that sign in link which leads directly to Uplifter through Okta. 

If you have multiple Okta tenants (for example, a UAT environment as well as a production environment, or separate business units), you will need to install the Uplifter integration within each tenant. We recommend in this case distributing the sign in link to users within those tenants for them to sign in, rather than the default https://uplifter.tech/login page, so that you are sure they are signing into the correct tenant.

Sign in with an Okta account

Uplifter supports Okta as an identity provider for Uplifter.  Users will be able to click a button "Sign in with Okta" from the Sign in portal.

1. For users which previously did not have access to Uplifter (unregistered users):

• During the registration process, click the "Register with Okta" button to start the process that will associate your Uplifter account with your Okta account.

2. For users which had previously had access to Uplifter (existing users)

• On the sign in screen, after you have entered your existing email address, click "Sign in with Okta" in order to sign in with your Okta account.  This will then associate the email address with the Okta user.
